The Silesian Stadium is better than PGE Narodowy. “I didn’t have a good atmosphere in Warsaw”

Where will the Polish national football team play in 2025? Legends of the national team spoke out about the considerable confusion caused by the Polish Football Association between Chorzów and Warsaw.

Let us remind you that at the beginning of the week there was information about the Polish football team moving out of PGE Narodowy. The Polish Football Association allegedly failed to reach an agreement with the PL.2012+ company, which manages the Warsaw facility.

The high costs discouraged the federation, which looked favorably towards the Silesian Stadium. In fact, according to Tomasz Włodarczyk from Meczyki.pl, a contract has already been signed for the national team’s matches to be played in the legendary Witches’ Cauldron.

However, there was a sudden change of plans. Less than a day later, after the sensational information, Włodarczyk (Meczyki.pl) again reported that there had been a meeting between the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras, and Prime Minister Donald Tusk. The signal “from above” towards the Polish Football Association and the PL.2012+ company is clear: the Polish national team is to play in Warsaw.

– Based on the experience of my career and playing together with my colleagues, I can say that we played some of the matches in Warsaw at the then Tenth Anniversary Stadium, in place of which the National Stadium was built, and some at the Silesian Stadium. As a player, I experienced much more emotions in Silesia, because they were also related to European cups. Therefore, the sentiment and sympathy for the Silesian Stadium will remain for years – admitted the legendary striker for polsatsport.pl.

Jacek Gmoch, former national team coach, has a similar opinion. One of the trio, together with Kazimierz Górski and Andrzej Strejlau, who won the World Cup medal in 1974. And then he got the chance to lead the national team himself, as the first coach.

– I was one of the first to start playing at Śląskie. There were no white collars then, and I was particularly at odds with the press, which was pro-communist at the time, and there was no other press. I didn’t have a good atmosphere in Warsaw, so I took the team to the Silesian Stadium. For a simple reason – there were fans there who felt the ball – adds Gmoch in the text by Michał Białoński.

So where will we finally see the squad in 2025? It looks like he will eventually play in the World Cup qualifying matches in Warsaw, and in the friendly matches (two dates) in Chorzów, and maybe in some other additional place.
