The Sejm chose the new president of the Supreme Audit Office. One of the candidates withdrew
Mariusz Haładyj became the new president of the Supreme Audit Office. At the last moment, the PiS candidate Tadeusz Dziuba withdrew from the race to the chair.
421 deputies voted for his candidacy, four were against, six abstained.
His candidacy for the head of the Supreme Audit Office was submitted by the Sejm Marshal Szymon Hołownia, who assured that he consulted the election of a candidate with government representatives. Law and Justice proposed Tadeusz Dziuba, a former PiS MP and former vice president of the Supreme Audit Office. Before voting, Jarosław Kaczyński informed about the withdrawal of his candidacy at the request of Dziuba himself.
Who is the new president of the Supreme Audit Office?
Mariusz Haładyj is a graduate of the Faculty of Law, Canon Law and Administration of the Catholic University of Lublin, he also completed post -graduate studies in the field of company law at the University of Warsaw. He also has a controlling application in the Supreme Audit Office.
Until the election of the President of the Supreme Audit Office, he was the head of the General Prosecutor’s Office. He was appointed by the then Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki. Between February 2012 and November 2015 he was the Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Economy. In the same ministry (after changing the name to the Ministry of Development), he held the function of the Undersecretary of State from December 2015 to January 2018. Among the former colleagues, he has the opinion of a workaholic.
How is the President of the Supreme Audit Office in Poland?
The President of the Supreme Audit Office appoints the Sejm with the consent of the Senate, which adopts a resolution in this matter within a month from the date of receipt of the resolution of the Sejm. Failure to take a resolution within this period means consent by the Senate.
For the first time in history, the election of the new president of the Supreme Audit Office was preceded by a public hearing of the candidates. The event took place under the auspices of the Speaker of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska and the Speaker of the Sejm Szymon Hołownia, who proposed the candidacy of Haładyja on behalf of all groups creating the ruling coalition. “I don’t have any political ties with him,” he said.
– The measure of the effectiveness of the Supreme Audit Office should be effectiveness in detecting serious abuse, and on the other hand such a change in the functioning of public institutions that a citizen felt these changes in everyday life – said Haładyj during the parliamentary interrogation. He also postulated the use of artificial intelligence to build an early warning system.
The six -year term of office of the previous president of the Supreme Audit Office Marian Banas was on August 30.
