Habub is a sand storm that occurs in desert areas, including on the Arabian Peninsula and in the Central United States, e.g. in Arizona and Colorado.
Sandstorm at the airport in the USA
In the first of these states she caused serious disturbances on Monday. A wall of sand and dust fell on the streets and houses. Disturbances occurred at the airport in Phoenix Sky Harbor, one of the most busy in the USA. Visibility was limited to almost zero, which led to over 200 delays, to 21:30. Only three flights were canceled.
The wind broke part of the roof in Terminal 4. “The teams located leaks and tried to remove the water that gathered in parts intended for passengers,” Heather Shelbrack, deputy director of publications of the airport, told the media deputy director of public relations.
Drivers also had problems, and 15,000 people have temporarily lost access to electricity.
Strong dust storms
The dust storm of this type is caused by an atmospheric front or a storm with lightning. It usually occurs in flat, dry areas. Sean Benedict, a meteorologist from the National Weather Service’s Phoenix, explained that the gusts of wind are raised by loose dust and dust, which are shuffled in front of the upcoming storm cell from dry areas and arable fields. If the storms do not develop, dust may be dispersed. However, cooled air before the storm can still push warm air up, and this generates new discharges and more descending currents.
Monday Habub came from the southeast. He was accompanied by heavy rains, wind and lightning.
