The Russian Specter ship is still in Gdynia. When will you get scrap metal?

The Russian tank Khatanga still remains in the port of Gdynia. The delay was caused by the lack of documentation needed to tow it to Denmark.
The Khatanga ship, a Russian reservoir, has been moored at the port of Gdynia for nearly eight years. Although the unit was to leave the port until May 5, 2025, the operation was postponed. The reason is the lack of a set of documents from the Danish Inspectorate for Environmental Protection – Miljøstyrelsen. Until the formalities are completed, the ship cannot set off on a cruise to Denmark, where it is to be scrapped.
The ship is ready to leave
According to the decision of the Maritime Office in Gdynia, the deadline for the operation was extended by a month. According to Kalina Gierblińska, a spokeswoman for the port of Gdynia, Danish documentation has still not been received. Meanwhile, the unit is already prepared for the exit – it has been placed in the beak towards exit from the port, which is to facilitate the towing as soon as the decision is made.
Khatanga tanker, or rather “хатанга”, was detained in Gdynia after he did not pass the standard control of the Port Control. The shipowner declared bankruptcy and contact with the trustee was not established. As a result, the unit remained unattended, becoming a problem for the port administration. After a long stop period, it was classified as waste in accordance with EU regulations.
Difficult transport
The planned transfer of the ship to the shipyard in Denmark is not a simple operation. Due to the fact that the unit was considered waste, its transport must take place in accordance with EU procedures, while maintaining the highest environmental standards. Only shipyards with appropriate EU certificates can recycling this type of unit.
The changed position of Khatanga, set with the beak to the exit, not only is to speed up future maneuvers, but also ensure greater safety of the ship during further stop. Currently, all parties are waiting for the end of Danish formal procedures, which depends on the start of the entire operation. As soon as the necessary documents are forwarded, it will be possible to tow the reservoir to the dismantling shipyard.
