The return of high prices at gas stations. End of the CPN package
It’s a pity, but from September 1, the government’s Fuel Prices Lower package is no longer valid. Drivers all over Poland fill up their car tanks at much higher prices.
The lack of our own oil deposits is a very unpleasant circumstance in 2026, but nothing will change in this matter. Like many other countries, Poland is forced to buy and import crude oil from the other side of the world. Just from the part that is at war.
The Polish government is unable to stop the price fluctuations for a barrel of oil. Once again, he did what he could – in mid-August, he reduced the VAT rate on fuel until the end of the holidays. And the holidays are over.
Fuels drive inflation. Price increase higher than expected
The situation in the Middle East was supposed to calm down, but this did not happen. An agreement between the US and Iran is one day close, and the next day it is further and further away. The Polish government is not taking part in the negotiations between the US and Iran – this war is indeed not ours, although we suffer its consequences every day. Those who don’t have cars also feel it when they pay higher and higher bills in stores where someone has to deliver the goods.
Prices of consumer goods and services increased by 3.4 percent in August. on an annual basis – this is according to a quick estimate of the Central Statistical Office. Compared to July, prices increased by 0.4%. Analysts expected lower price growth – by 3.1%. year to year and by 0.1 percent month to month. It happened differently.
Fuel prices are to blame. In August they were as much as 24.2 percent. higher than a year earlier. In July 2026, the increase was 15.8%. Month by month, they increased by 5.2%. The situation in the Middle East is still far from peaceful.
Current fuel prices at pylons. The government blames the president
Drivers who started the day by refueling today could only inhale deeply into their lungs. On August 31, a liter of 95 gasoline cost a maximum of PLN 6.64, a liter of 98 gasoline – PLN 7.46 per liter, and diesel fuel – PLN 7.31 per liter.
On September 1, the situation changed. Ninety-five petrol costs PLN 7.64, PB98 – PLN 8.49, and a liter of diesel fuel – PLN 8.39. Almost a zloty more per liter.
According to the forecast of the e-petrol portal, by September 6, fuels will cost:
-
Pb95: from PLN 7.38 to PLN 7.51 per liter,
-
Pb98: from PLN 8.36 to PLN 8.49 per liter,
-
diesel oil: from PLN 8.19 to PLN 8.33 per liter,
-
LPG: from PLN 2.89 to PLN 2.97 per liter.
The government explains to Poles that VAT on fuels should be reduced indefinitely you can’t – the state budget won’t survive this time. It would be different if the president signed the law on windfall profits from oil companies. But he did not sign it, but sent it to the Constitutional Tribunal under the preventive review procedure. He had doubtswhether the acts do not violate the principle that the law does not apply retroactively.
“The president has blocked the financing of the CPN package for the coming weeks and months,” said Minister of Energy Miłosz Motyka.
