The return of CPN. The minister revealed how much we will pay for fuel after the weekend

On Thursday, Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced the partial restoration of the Lower Fuel Prices (CPN) package. On the same day, an amendment to the regulation of the Minister of Finance and Economy on reduced rates of tax on goods and services entered into force, which provides for a reduction from 23 percent. up to 8 percent VAT rates on petrol and diesel oil. The lower VAT will apply from August 17 to August 31, i.e. until the end of the holidays.

Energy Minister Miłosz Motyka announced today how much drivers will pay for fuel on August 17, i.e. next Monday.

Fuel prices on Monday, August 17

On August 17, the maximum rates at stations for individual fuels will be:

• unleaded petrol Pb95: PLN 6.41 per liter,

• unleaded petrol Pb98: PLN 7.20 per liter,

• diesel oil: PLN 7.37 per liter.

Let us remind you that the CPN package operated from the end of March to the end of June this year. As part of the package, the VAT rate on fuel dropped from 23 to 8 percent, and excise duty was reduced by 29 groszy for a liter of gasoline and 28 groszy for diesel oil, i.e. to the lowest level allowed by the European Union (the excise duty reduction was valid until mid-June). An important element of CPN was also the introduction of price limits at gas stations.

After the package expired at the beginning of July, fuel prices at stations increased significantly. It’s no wonder that most drivers wanted the package restored at least for the last two weeks of their vacation. This is proven by a survey conducted by SW Research for “Wprost” conducted a week ago. As many as two thirds of respondents (66.2%) were in favor of reactivating the package at the end of the holidays. Less than 14 percent were of the opposite opinion. respondents, and every fifth (19.9%) has no opinion on this matter.

Estimates of the Ministry of Finance show that the current cost of the CPN program has amounted to approximately PLN 4.7 billion. The resumption of VAT reductions on fuels for the last two weeks of August will cost approximately PLN 495 million.
