The dismissal of Daniel Pliński from PSG Stal Nysa was widely reported in the community. Robert Prygiel, president of the PlusLiga club, has now revealed the behind-the-scenes of the breakup.
It is no secret that both men know each other very well, not only professionally, but above all privately, as former teammates. However, in the operation of a sports club, difficult decisions must be made. This turned out to be the dismissal of Daniel Pliński from PSG Stal Nysa by president Robert Prygl. The latter issued a special statement, explaining a bit the reasons for the breakup.
PlusLiga: Robert Prygiel on the behind-the-scenes of his breakup with Daniel Pliński
Just as Prygiel’s friendly relationship with Pliński is no secret, the former coach of the club from Nysa was courting another representative of PlusLiga. Behind the scenes, there is more and more talk about the takeover of AZS Olsztyn by Pliński Indykpol, with the start of the new season, i.e. 2025/25.
Prygiel did not confirm his former employee’s move to Olsztyn, but he certainly showed once again how difficult it was for him to leave “Plina”. In a special statement published on Friday (December 6), apart from emphasizing Pliński’s role and appreciating his contribution to the development of the club, there are also a few bitter sentences regarding the realities of volleyball.
Unfortunately, it is impossible to disagree with President Prygiel. Moreover, the courage to call things by their proper name, showing the actual state of the situation, should be appreciated.
“Due to the unhealthy situation on the transfer market that has been going on for years, resulting in increasingly early talks and signing of pre-contracts, in the following days we started working together on a plan to build the team for the coming years. Unfortunately, after the match on November 13, coach Pliński informed us about his decision to withdraw from the PSG Stal Nysa project after the 2024/2025 season and about his plans to work elsewhere. As president and former teammate, I accept this decision with respect. Considering the current situation in which the team finds itself, we decided that it was necessary to employ a coach who would be fully committed to the basic goal of maintaining the club in the PlusLiga, and would take an active part in building the next chapter of Nysa volleyball, giving the team a new impetus. ” – we read in fragments of the statement, fully available on the club’s website.
Francesco Petrella makes his debut in the Polish competition
Pliński was replaced by Francesco Petrella. The Italian coach took up work outside his homeland for the first time. His last club was Valsa Group Modena (2023-24), he was released during the competition.
The Italian also has several years of work as an assistant at Itas Trentino (2017-23). Interestingly, the new coach of PSG Stal is only 35 years old.
Pliński is the third coach fired in PlusLiga this season. Earlier, in Olsztyn, Juan Manuel Barrial was replaced by Marcin Mierzejewski, and in Katowice, Grzegorz Słaby was replaced by Emil Siewiorek. In both cases, these were replacements of “number one” players by previous assistants. In Nysa the situation is different.
