The popular island tightens its regulations. It’s about renting scooters

Renting motorcycles and scooters by tourists will be more difficult. The famous island has decided to tighten its regulations.

The alarmingly high number of road accidents involving scooters and motorcycles has made Bali decide to tighten the regulations on the rental of these vehicles by tourists. The island authorities presented a number of new requirements, including: the need to present an international driving license. “Rental companies must also provide helmets, reflective vests and other necessary protective equipment, and ensure that each driver knows the applicable road rules,” we read.

Renting a scooter in Bali will be difficult

Traveling freely by scooter is one of the best ways to discover the beauty of Bali. This type of transport is chosen by many tourists due to the very low rental and fuel prices, as well as wide availability. Unfortunately, lack of knowledge of the rules and careless driving contribute to an increasing number of accidents every year. Some companies offering rental vehicles did not always carefully check the required documents. From now on, under tighter regulations, the presentation of an international driving license will be strictly enforced at all points offering such services. “This change is intended to ensure that tourists with little or no experience riding a motorcycle do not endanger themselves or others when navigating difficult terrain,” it says.

Mandatory training for drivers

Tourists who want to rent a scooter or motorcycle will have to undergo mandatory safety training. Most often, such a course can be taken directly at the rental point.

Driving in Bali, like on many other islands in Indonesia and Southeast Asian countries, requires appropriate skills. “The roads on the island, although beautiful, constitute a serious challenge for people unfamiliar with the local traffic dynamics. Narrow lanes, aggressive bends and many vehicles on the road may surprise the unprepared,” we read.
