The popular BLIK service disappears for several months. What do you need to do?

PKO BP informs about the temporary disabling of the option to create passwords for BLIK checks. Customers have until January 17 to set them up.
PKO BP Bank issued an announcement regarding significant changes in the functionality of the BLIK system. From January 17 to May 6, 2025, customers will not be able to create new passwords for BLIK checks. People who set a password before this date will continue to be able to use their checks without any problems. The bank emphasizes that the decision to temporarily limit this function results from the increase in the activity of cybercriminals.
Why were changes made?
The PKO BP press office explained that the interruption in access to the function of creating passwords for BLIK checks was dictated by security reasons. “Recently, we have noticed increased activities of cybercriminals who use BLIK checks to extort customers’ money,” says the bank, quoted by the Goniec portal.
Although the restriction is temporary, customers accustomed to BLIK checks must adapt to the changes. PKO BP assures that it is working to improve security and restore the service after the break.
Other BLIK functions remain available
PKO BP reassures its customers that other functions of the BLIK system continue to operate unchanged. Users can still use:
-
BLIK payments in stationary stores,
-
online payments,
-
cash withdrawals from ATMs,
-
BLIK transfers to the phone.
The bank encourages customers who cannot use BLIK checks in the coming months to use alternative options, such as BLIK transfers to phone.
Why is it worth setting a password before January 17?
People who create a password for BLIK checks before January 17, 2025 will be able to use this function even during the break. The bank advises not to delay and configure your settings in the mobile application in advance.
BLIK check is a convenient option that allows you to make payments in stores, online or withdraw from ATMs without the need to use a payment card. Temporarily disabling it may make it difficult to use this form of payment for people who do not manage to set a password in time.
When will the service return?
The break will last until May 6, 2025. After this date, functionality is to be resumed with improved security measures to minimize the risk of fraud.
