The Polish Olympic medalist lost her eyesight. There is a reaction to the dramatic appeal
Agata Wróbel was an outstanding weightlifter whose career included, among others: world and European champion and Olympic medalist. Now he needs help.
Agata Wróbel’s health problems were already publicized quite a few years ago, when she was a great weightlifter and decided to talk about them via the Internet. The Polish woman fought, among others, with depression and diabetes. There was even a collection, and a certain amount – thanks to the support of, among others, from the fans – the Olympic athlete managed to achieve, which showed how important a role she played in the history of the Polish Olympic movement.
This is the PZPC’s reaction to Agata Wróbel’s dramatic appeal
In mid-December 2024, Wróbel again shared a moving entry in which she said that she was having problems again. The request was mainly directed towards the purchase of specially prepared mugs with the image of the former athlete.
Thanks to the profits from the sale, the Olympic runner-up (Sydney 2000) and bronze medalist (Athens 2004) wanted to give herself the opportunity to rent a normal house and find a place there with her pets. The Pole also revealed that she had lost her eyesight.
“(…) I’m not doing it for myself as much as for my beloved furry children, where maybe we will finally be able to rent a normal house with a fence, maybe without neighbors so that they don’t disturb them and don’t bark, this is our little dream, I don’t know if she eats a lot but maybe at least she will live to see better times where they can feel safe. God grant that they are still with me, dear, if only it would be better for them. I don’t want anything for myself anymore, I really don’t want anything since I lost my sight. I actually feel excluded from society friend. Can everyone. Share my link on yours. Profile thank you” – we read in Wróbel’s entry.
On Thursday (January 9), there was a reaction from the Polish Weightlifting Association. As you can read in the long entry dedicated to Wróbel, the federation wanted, wants and will want to support its outstanding former player.
The message is addressed both to the public opinion, but also to the Minister of Sport and Tourism, Sławomir Nitras, and the Polish Olympic Committee, headed by Radosław Piesiewicz.
“Due to the information that appeared in the media in recent days regarding the difficult material, living and health situation of the most outstanding Polish weightlifting competitor Agata Wróbel, the Polish Weightlifting Association informs that it immediately took action to help the athlete in her dramatic fight. for improving living conditions and health. The new president of PZPC, Zdzisław Żołopa, became very interested in the problem. Our association has established contact with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism regarding comprehensive medical assistance for our most outstanding weightlifter in the 100-year history of Polish weightlifting. We are convinced that the Polish Olympic Committee will join the joint action of MSiT and PZPC. We believe that soon our wonderful player will be under professional medical care and will start living in decent conditions! – PZPC spokesman Marek Kaczmarczyk said via social media.
The unanswered question remains whether Wróbel will decide to accept help from PZPC. From what can be concluded from the entry of the federation mentioned a few years earlier, it was not possible to implement what was offered. And on the table was a permanent job at COS Szczyrk or medical care.
Agata Wróbel will only be 44 years old in August 2025.
