The Polish Olympic Committee revealed who will carry the Polish flag! A special choice of standard bearers

Reprezentacja Polski

Gabriela Topolska and Vladimir Semirunniy will be the standard bearers during the closing ceremony of the XXV Winter Olympic Games. This will take place on Sunday, February 22.

The Polish Olympic Committee announced the decision on Saturday morning.

It is worth recalling that during the opening ceremony these honors were performed by Natalia Czerwonka and Kamil Stoch in the Polish national team. We can therefore say that there has been a symbolic generational change. Gabriela Topolska and Wladimir Semirunnij are characters born in the 21st century.

Topolska is a short track representative. During the Winter Olympics 2026, she competed in three distances: 500, 1000 and 150 meters. The Polish athlete comes from Białystok (born 2001), this is her debut at the Olympics. The Pole was not lucky when competing in the arenas in Milan. Topolska failed both in the 1000 meters and in her crowning distance of 1500 meters.

Vladimir Semirunniy will remember Winter Olympics 2026 much better. The boy, who was born in Yekaterinburg (born 2002), has been living in Poland since 2023, clearly opposing Russian aggression in Ukraine. During the event in Italy, he won the Olympic vice-championship in 10 km. He also performed solidly over the distance of 1,500 meters.

2026 Games in Italy. Where and when to watch the Poles’ starts?

The Polish national team during the opening games consists of 60 athletes. In the 21st century, there has never been a time when a Polish woman or a Pole was not on the Olympic podium during the Winter Olympics. During the last winter games, Poland finished the competition with one medal. The bronze medal was won by ski jumper Dawid Kubacki in the normal hill competition.

In the history of the Olympic Games, the Polish national team has won a total of 27 medals – seven gold, ten silver and ten bronze, respectively. Interestingly, the first bronze medal for Poland was won by Franciszek Gąsienica-Groń (Nordic combined) almost exactly 70 years ago, during the Olympic Games in… Cortina d’Ampezzo. This year, history has come full circle in a beautiful Italian-Polish Olympic circle.
