The Polish Olympic Committee has huge debts! Radosław Piesiewicz left this situation
Marian Kmita became the new president of the Polish Olympic Committee. In an interview for TVP Sport, he revealed the financial situation after Radosław Piesiewicz.
Marian Kmita is a long-time director of Polsat Sport and current vice-president of the Polish Olympic Committee. He was chosen as the man at the head of the Polish Olympic movement.
Radosław Piesiewicz was dismissed as head of the Polish Olympic Committee for this.
Let us recall that the former head of the Polish Olympic Committee was detained on August 27 this year by officers of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime. The action was related to the investigation into the collapsed Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange. He was charged on the same day.
Two days later, the District Court of Katowice-Wschód granted the application for temporary arrest against Radosław Piesiewicz. The former president of the Polish Olympic Committee will spend three months in custody.
Marian Kmita on the future of the Polish Olympic Committee. Words were spoken about Sławomir Nitras
Kmita could count on the most important faction on the Polish Olympic Committee’s board. And this was crucial in the context of support and the election of this vice president as Piesiewicz’s successor. On what basis did Piesiewicz lose his position? We are talking about art. 21 of the POC Status. It indicates the situation of “the inability of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee to perform his function”.
The new president, who has just started activities aimed at healing the Polish Olympic movement, revealed the situation related to the current financial realities of the Polish Olympic Committee. Will there really be enough money until the end of September 2026?
– Well, she’s not that bad. There’s enough money until the end of the year, but that doesn’t mean it’s good. By the end of the year, the debts that need to be repaid amount to approximately PLN 3.5 million. And in addition, you need to find one million zlotys to maintain the Polish Olympic Committee every month. So the total is 6.5 million – said Kmita in an interview for TVP Sport.
– Activity, we will talk. We want to rebuild the image. I think we have a chance since yesterday. Conversations from a completely different level, from a different position, with state and private sponsors. This is one thing (…) I am counting on the wisdom of those who have so far been involved in sponsoring Polish sport. And that what happened yesterday is for those who do not have such phobias as former Minister Nitras. The fact that this is an opening that is credible – commented the new president of the Polish Olympic Committee.
Kmita is criticized by former sports minister Sławomir Nitras mainly for being “Piesiewicz’s man”, supporting the former president of the Polish Olympic Committee.
The newly elected president will serve until April 2027.
