The European Volleyball Championships will be held from August 21 to September 6. Among the participants will be the Polish national team coached by Stefano Lavarini.
What can you expect from the Polish women’s performance? Certainly, coach Stefano Lavarini has a team with great potential that can even reach the tournament podium.
However, it must be remembered that the Polish national volleyball team has been waiting for a medal at a European Championship event since 2009. Then, for the last time, the Polish team could enjoy a place on the podium, the lowest one, i.e. valued at bronze.
European Volleyball Championship. When and where to watch the Polish national team matches?
The Polish team hasn’t had the happiest time in recent weeks. It started with not advancing to the final tournament of VNL 2026. Coach Lavarini’s team was one victory away from happiness, but in the end it was missing… one set. However, in the decisive match, Poland lost 2-3 to Japan, despite already leading 2-0.
Additionally, it is no secret that the words spoken by former national team captain Joanna Wołosz resonated loudly. The great setter spoke on TVP Sport about the resignation of some players from playing in the national team.
Little? We can also add an injury that ultimately forced Martyna Łukasik to undergo surgery. One of the main figures in recent years in the national team.
However, the Polish women will fight to end the 2026 season on a nice note. Who knows, maybe the European Championship 2026 will also be crucial for the coach of the Polish team. Recently, there has been some uncertainty as to whether, in the absence of success, the paths of the federation (i.e. PZPS) and the Italian will continue to follow the same direction.
However, returning to the European Championship 2026, the Polish women were placed in group A. In this phase of the tournament, they will face the Hungarians, the Latvians, the Slovenians, the Germans and the Turks. Group A matches will be played in Istanbul, Turkey.
The event will be held in four countries in total: Turkey, Azerbaijan, the Czech Republic and Sweden.
It is worth adding that the four best teams from each group will advance to the knockout phase.
Schedule of Polish women’s matches at the European Volleyball Championship 2026:
- August 22: Hungary – Poland (Saturday, 6:00 p.m.)
- August 24: Poland – Latvia (Monday, 15:00)
- August 25: Poland – Slovenia (Tuesday, 18:00)
- August 27: Poland – Germany (Thursday, 15:00)
- August 28: Türkiye – Poland (Friday, 18:00)
At the last European Championships, held in 2023, the Polish team was eliminated in the quarterfinals by the Turkish team. As it turned out, Türkiye later won the final triumph, defeating the Serbians in the final (3:2). The bronze medal went to the Dutch.
It is worth adding that in the all-time European Volleyball Men’s Championship table, Poland ranks high in 5th place. This included two gold medals, four silver and five bronze. That’s a total of 11 discs. Of all (!) teams, only the leading representatives of the USSR (16 medals), a non-existent country, have more medals. Interestingly, the runners-up are… Russians.
