The Polish Football Association has made a decision on Jan Urban’s future. Instant message after failure

Jan Urban

Jan Urban will continue to be the coach of the Polish national team. The president of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, announced the decision regarding the coach just after the Sweden-Poland match.

The Poles lost to the Swedes 2:3 at the Strawberry Arena in Solna, Sweden. Viktor Gyökeres struck a decisive blow in the 88th minute, scoring the decisive goal that meant victory for the hosts.

PZPN with its decision regarding Jan Urban. Cezary Kulesza with a night entry!

However, the Polish team performed quite well, considering the stakes of the match and the fact that they were not favorites in the confrontation with Sweden on their soil. Looking at the guests’ play, it was the best match played by the Poles during the term of coach Jan Urban.

Therefore, it is difficult to be surprised by the decision made by the Polish Football Association regarding cooperation with the current coach. Urban remains in office!

“Football can be brutal. Unfortunately, we will not be at the World Cup. We all feel dissatisfied. Just now, in the locker room, I thanked the team for the fight. I also informed that the contract with Jan Urban will be extended,” the president of the Polish Football Association wrote on the X website.

It was a great series for coach Jan Urban’s team. Seven matches without defeat

It is worth recalling that the Polish national team, led by Jan Urban, recorded a great result. In the second half of 2025, since the former distinguished representative, participant of the World Cup (1986), has been leading the team, the Polish national team has not lost a match.

In September, there was a draw with the Netherlands in Rotterdam (1:1) and a victory against Finland (3:1) in Chorzów. In October, a win in a friendly match against New Zealand (1-0), a participant of the 2026 World Cup – again at the Superauto.pl Silesian Stadium – and a qualifying victory against Lithuania (2-0) in Kaunas. And the last representative window of 2025, i.e. a November draw at the PGE Narodowy with the Dutch (1:1) and a slightly tired away victory over the much lower ranked Malta (3:2).

These achievements include Thursday’s victory over Albania (2:1), in the semi-final of the UEFA World Cup 2026 play-off zone.

The first defeat came only in the final battle against the Swedes. Poland lost slightly (2:3), but at a key moment, considering the context of its final absence from the most important tournament of the last four years.
