From March 3, ticket controllers in Szczecin are equipped with seed cameras. The purchase of equipment is explained by concern for the safety of both controllers and passengers.

Today, ticket controllers in Szczecin have started working in public transport vehicles for the first time equipped with drilled cameras. The Szczecin Road and Urban Transport Authority does not reveal how many of them there are and where passengers must be on guard. – We do not provide details due to the specifics of their work – passed the Polish Press Agency Kacper Reszczyński, spokesman for the Road and Urban Transport Authority.

Ticket controllers with cameras. They cost almost 68 thousand zloty

It is known, however, that 30 video recorders were purchased. They are to supervise the work of ticket controllers and in the event of disputed situations with passengers, dispose of intervention recordings.

It is worth emphasizing that the cameras are not connected to special vests, which are used by, for example, police officers or city guards. Cameras – as Reszczyński explains – have clips with which they are attached to the elements of clothing.

Importantly, cameras – like monitoring installed in public transport vehicles – only record a picture, without sound. The devices are turned on only during the inspection. After the controllers are completed, the recordings will be automatically saved on a secured server. Only a few employees of the Road and Urban Transport Board have access to the system.

Recordings from the work of ticket controllers are to be helpful in considering any complaints of passengers. – We bought cameras primarily for the safety of passengers and controllers – emphasizes Reszczyński.

30 video recorders, docking stations and ICT system cost 67.8 thousand. zloty. The purchase was financed from the city budget. Before the controllers started working with video equipment, it was necessary to change local regulations (it was about the GDPR regulations) and the consent of the city authorities. Training for employees of the Road and Urban Transport Board was also conducted.

Controllers are trained in this matter and know how to use this equipment, how to use it. In the near future we are to take control, in which our controllers with cameras will participate – announced at the beginning of February Reszczyński on Radio Szczecin.

The decision to equip the controllers with the camera was made after the controller took the passenger of the 811 bus passenger at the end of July last year. The incident was recorded, the video went to the Internet and was widely commented on.

Radio Szczecin reminds that the fee for a tram or bus in Szczecin is PLN 200. If it is not regulated within seven days, you have to pay PLN 400.
