During the games in Italy, the Pole suggested that he wanted to end his career. – It brings me more frustration and nerves than pleasure. It’s not about money, it’s about living a normal life – he said in an interview with Sportowe Fakty. – However, if I were to continue practicing sports, I would finally want to race with the best on equal terms. I would like to have at least a slight chance of winning individual competitions. I dream of a situation in which I would fight for the podium with a perfect run, he added.

When asked for details, Mateusz Sochowicz said that he had worse equipment than his rivals. – I feel terrible when I see that others make many more mistakes on the route and still arrive before me. It makes you want to give it all up and do something else. I envy athletes who can compete with the best and have everything in their hands. I have one of the best starts in the world, and even when I do great, I lose because my equipment is several times worse. – he argued.

In this context, it is worth recalling that the luger from Wrocław has already announced his break with professional sport (in 2024). Ultimately, however, he changed his decision. – Then the wool was pulled over my eyes. I was presented with a vision that had nothing to do with reality. I was naive and believed in the fairy tale. I got a new sled, but what’s the point if the way the runners are prepared hasn’t changed at all. We still don’t have any knowledge or help from outside, he explained.

The luger did not spare bitter words against the union. His report shows that apart from the coach, no one is interested in what equipment he has. – Our activists have no idea about luge. Their goal is to build a track, but even that fails. This was my third Olympics, and absolutely nothing had changed in that time. I’m still fed the same talk. I’m tired of this. Hence my words about the end of my career. If it weren’t for the coach, our situation would be even worse and our discipline would regress, he admitted.

For now, it is not known whether Mateusz Sochowicz will actually say goodbye to competitions for good. – The end of my career is fast approaching, but for now I am actually continuing the season, and I will make the final decision calmly when I get home and think about all the pros and cons. If something were to actually change, I would strongly consider it. However, I am a bit fed up with this environment, he declared.
