The Pole experienced his worst nightmare. Now he will play in the Australian Open!

Kamil Majchrzak

Kamil Majchrzak advanced to the main tournament of the Australian Open 2025. For the Polish tennis player, winning three-stage qualifications has a special meaning.

To understand how happy Kamil Majchrzak can be now, it is worth going back to the end of 2022. It was then announced that illegal substances intended to improve the tennis player’s performance had been detected in the Pole’s body. Judgment? Several years of disqualification.

Kamil Majchrzak again in the Grand Slam main draw!

However, the player from Piotrków Trybunalski fought to prove his innocence. Ultimately, this was proven. In June 2023, the International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA), accepting the player’s explanation that he had taken prohibited substances unknowingly and that he had previously consulted a dietician who was supposed to approve a given supplement, shortened the Pole’s suspension.

Majchrzak’s penalty after it was shortened? A long 13 months. Interestingly, a quite similar case happened to the then leader of the ATP world ranking, Jannik Sinner. However, the Italian could count on the same organizations dealing with combating violations of anti-doping rules to turn a blind eye.

The Pole, in fact, commented on the case, rightly pointing out the unequal treatment.

“A few hours before the match, I received the latest news from the tennis world. They are shocking and extremely painful for me. I didn’t go into details for my own health and mental comfort, but the fact that for most of the duration of my case I couldn’t even set foot on a non-private court… and it turns out that others can play normally and fulfill their dreams in the same situation, did not gives me peace. I am devastated and shocked. But like I said, maybe I’m wrong. Besides, who cares what I think, a guy not from the top,” Majchrzak wrote on social media in reaction to the situation with Sinner.

However, this is already behind the Polish tennis player, who has just passed the three-stage qualifications for AO 2025. The Pole defeated: Argentinian Marco Trungelliti, American Zachary Svajda and British Billy Harris (7:5, 6:2).

Thus, Majchrzak (ATP 117) took an important step towards regaining what he lost due to suspension, i.e. entering the top 100 rankings and climbing towards higher and higher positions. Majchrzak’s highest singles ranking was 75th at the beginning of 2022. The Pole was one of the national team representatives during the recent United Cup 2025.

Australian Open 2025. When and where to watch the Grand Slam tournament?

The first Grand Slam event in 2025 is scheduled for January 12-26. Then the main tournament bracket will be played, not including the qualifications, which Maja Chwalińska and Kamil Majchrzak successfully passed. However, Maks Kaśnikowski did not enter the main ladder.

A trio of women will definitely play in the main tournament of AO 2025: Iga Świątek, Magdalena Fręch and Magda Linette, and Hubert Hurkacz among the men.

AO 2025 matches will be played every day from 1:30 a.m., looking at Polish watches. Broadcasts will be carried out on Eurosport and via the MAX platform. The title from last year is defended by Aryna Sabalenka among the singles players and Jannik Sinner among the singles players. Interestingly, a year ago, Pole Jan Zieliński won the mixed doubles competition in a duet with Taiwanese tennis player Hsieh Su-wei.
