The Płock Zoo is celebrating. The birthday is celebrated by “Living Symbol”. Marta is 95 years old

“One of the most famous inhabitants of Płock, Mississipian alligator, turns 95. On this occasion, as every year, the Zoo gives her a birthday party. We invite you to visit and make wishes to a dignified birthday boy” – announced the zoological garden on Tuesday.

The Senior of the Garden has been celebrating since February

Garden employees reported that the alligator was already received in February 2025, when it was decided to modernize a huge terrarium. The purpose of this procedure was to provide the animal with further amenities and to display it on the catwalk.

This time it will be a unique meeting, because Marta is 95 years old. This is the oldest animal among living garden residents in Europe – said Magda Kowalkowska from the Płock zoo.

Płock Zoo is preparing an unforgettable party

An unforgettable happening is planned for the 95th birthday of Marta’s alligator. The party will start on May 17 at 11 in the herpetarium pavilion. Employees reveal that, apart from animations and art workshops, they plan “crocodile competitions”.

There will also be stories about the history of alligator. According to the findings of the animal’s guardians, Marta hatched in 1930 in the now non -existent Reptile Jungle Garden in Slidell, the USA. On August 19, 1960, she came to the Płock zoo with the Pedro male thanks to the United States, Eng. Tadeusz Wągrowski.

ZOO employees have repeatedly tried to provide Marta of his life partner, but she rejected her “cohabitation”. Finally, it was recognized that the reptile prefers to lead a lonely life, which was decided to respect.

Employees of the Płock zoo speak of the alligator “Our Senior and Star” for a reason. In 1970, Marta had the opportunity to play the role of Herman’s crocodile in “Hydrozagadka” by Andrzej Kondratiuk.

When we talk about it, we always remember the anecdote that during the film photos there was a moment of fear that Marta would choose freedom and remain in the waters of the lagoon. Luckily, everything ended well, because she probably wouldn’t keep the winter cold – recalled Kowalkowska.
