The pilot died in front of tourists. A tragedy in a paradise resort
The situation that occurred in one of the holiday resorts chills the blood of even those most resistant to tragic events. There was no indication that an experienced pilot would not take tourists away from their paradise vacation.
The situation took place on the island of Saint Lucia, a country located in the Caribbean Sea. A British Airways pilot was supposed to fly with passengers from Vieux Fort to Gatwick in London, but he lost consciousness during a break before the journey. Everything happened in a luxury hotel, in front of tourists. The 47-year-old man’s life could not be saved.
The pilot died during the break
Due to the tragedy, flight number BA2158 was canceled. The death of a respected and experienced senior first officer came as a total surprise. The seemingly harmless fainting occurred suddenly while resting before the flight.
When the man lost consciousness, help was quickly called. After medics confirmed the death of the 47-year-old, British Airways immediately informed the island authorities and the family of the deceased.
Death in front of tourists
“This tragedy has left British Airways staff stunned and deeply upset,” reported the British tabloid The Sun. The devastated crew members returned to the UK on another flight in the evening. Psychological support was also offered to witnesses and the pilot’s family.
The airline expressed its condolences. “Our thoughts are with our colleague’s family and friends at this difficult time,” British Airways said in a statement.
Unfortunately, this is not the first time we hear about this type of situation. In June this year, there was a lot of talk about, among others: that the captain of the Egyptian Sky Vision Airlines died during the flight. Then the circumstances of the tragedy were even more dramatic, because the crew had to make an emergency landing, 200 km from the target. The passengers were stunned by the announcement about the reason for the change, which was given by the second pilot on board the Airbus A32.
In turn, in August 2023, during a flight from Miami to Santiago de Chile, one of the three pilots died before the machine reached its destination.
