The picturesque lake disappears quickly. Tourists love to relax there

Jezioro Balaton

Disappearing lakes and beaches are a problem in many tourist places. In some tourists must get used to the fact that in the future they will not find the same views as now. A serious problem was noticed in Hungary.

Although Hungary does not have access to the sea, their famous Lake Balaton leads the way, which is often referred to as the “Hungarian sea”. This is the largest emerald reservoir in this country, surrounded by picturesque hills and lush vegetation. He has been attracting tourists for years, especially interesting attractions and unique views. Now it turns out that the lake is drastically disappearing. Water is not enough, and forecasts for the near future are not positive.

“Hungarian sea” is shrinking

It is more and more often talked about that Lake Balaton has a problem. Over the past three months, the water level in it has lowered by up to 30 cm, and the average depth has already dropped below one meter – this is due to the latest forecasts of June 21. It has never been so bad at this time of year, and this is just the beginning of great changes. Hydrologists are concerned, they inform about the disturbing phenomenon as at the beginning of summer, as well as about climate change that affect this state of affairs.

The problem is primarily to be drought and high heat. It happens that through it water in Balaton has even 25 degrees, and there is nothing to count on the rain.

Similar meteorological values were noticed a year ago, but then the water level in the lake decreased only in August – during the week the water level in the lake decreased by as much as eight centimeters. This year, this process began much earlier. Despite the difficult situation, experts ensure that the reservoir should not dry in the near future and it certainly will not happen very quickly. Despite this, it is necessary to constantly monitor the situation.

Tourists have a reason to worry?

Tourists love to spend their holidays over the Hungarian lake. Among them there are Poles who know that rest in this country is cheap for them, and access to the place is not complicated or long. Arriving there this year, they will find a sad view. It turns out that by the end of summer the water level in Balaton can drop up to 70 cm. This would be an alarm value for the entire ecosystem and the functioning of tourism in the region. At this time of year, the norm is usually 110-120 cm.

It is worth remembering that the right water depth allows not only to the safe life of plants or animals, but also to the use of water sports. Many boats or yachts can flow into the waters only at the required depth, so as not to settle down.
