Passengers flying from Skiathos to Naples were shocked when they heard the pilot’s announcement. Their luggage was to be left on the ground.

The return of tourists from the popular Greek island did not go as planned. In recent days, Greek and Italian media have circulated a recording in which passengers of one of the charter flights hear an unusual message from the pilot. Before the flight from Skiathos to Naples took off, the luggage compartment had to be emptied. The machine was too heavy to take off safely in the prevailing conditions. The captain’s decision aroused considerable emotions.

The luggage was left at the airport in Greece

An unusual situation occurred at Skiathos airport, which, due to its short runway, requires the crews to be particularly careful during takeoff and landing. This time an additional difficulty was the strong wind. After considering the conditions, the captain of the charter flight to Naples decided that the plane was too heavy to take off safely. It was therefore necessary to reduce its weight. It was considered to leave some passengers or their luggage on the island. Ultimately, it was decided that the tourists would fly to Naples and leave the suitcases on the ground.

Information about leaving luggage was provided to travelers on the plane, so there were no unpleasant surprises on site. Passengers knew that their luggage had not been lost and would arrive safely on the next flight – first to the airport in Naples, and then they would be gradually delivered to their homes and hotels. Of course, not everyone liked this decision. However, the voices of dissatisfaction were interrupted by the pilot. “I am the captain, I decide” – you can hear on one of the recordings.

Losing luggage is a passenger’s worst nightmare

Although the unusual situation ultimately had a happy ending, it cannot be denied that losing luggage is one of the biggest travel nightmares for every tourist. Of course, you can insure yourself against such events, but this will not allow you to avoid temporary inconveniences on site. Airlines also provide assistance to injured passengers who can count on compensation.
