The Parliament has decided on cryptocurrencies. Three times a charm?
The Parliament adopted the act on cryptocurrencies. This is the third attempt to settle this year. Previous projects have been vetoed by the president.
MPs adopted another version of the draft bill on cryptoassets. 441 MPs voted, of which 241 MPs were for and 200 against. No one abstained. The project was supported by clubs of the ruling coalition, i.e. Civic Coalition, Polish People’s Party, Left, Poland 2050, Center, as well as MPs from the Razem group and five non-affiliated MPs.
– Our act is an act that effectively regulates the crypto-asset market. An act thanks to which savers investing in this market will be provided with the same level of protection as those investing in other financial markets. End this circus, stand on the side of Poles and support a good project – Andrzej Domański, Minister of Finance and Economy, argued even before the vote, quoted by tvn24.pl.
The third approach to cryptocurrencies
Let us recall that the project designates the Polish Financial Supervision Authority (KNF) as the supervisory authority over the crypto-asset market. The Commission would receive, among others: the ability to block cash and crypto-asset accounts for 96 hours, with the possibility of extending it to six months.
The latest version takes into account the proposal of the Chancellery of the President, according to which the Polish Financial Supervision Authority, in cooperation with the Minister of Finance, would annually prepare and publish reports on the functioning of the crypto-asset market in the Public Information Bulletin.
The project also provides for the possibility for the Polish Financial Supervision Authority to enter into the register Internet domains used to conduct illegal activities in the field of cryptoassets and to impose financial penalties on issuers and providers of services related to cryptoassets.
For the third time, the Sejm has attempted to regulate the crypto-assets market. Two previous government bills on this matter were vetoed by President Karol Nawrocki. We will soon know the decision of the head of state regarding the project voted today.
