Flat panels may have a new rival. The photovoltaic cone is designed to use light throughout the day and from various directions.

The growing importance of energy independence, reducing CO2 emissions and searching for cheaper energy means that the renewable energy industry does not stop looking for new solutions. Companies operating in the renewable energy sector are trying to create devices that will be significantly more efficient than the technologies to which users are already accustomed. Solar energy still remains one of the most important directions of this exploration.

The sun is still treated as an inexhaustible source of energy, so there is a race to use radiation as effectively as possible. In this context, various ideas emerge, from new materials to unusual structures. This is one of them photovoltaic conewhich, according to the manufacturer, may be a completely new answer to the limitations of classic PV panels.

The photovoltaic cone is intended to replace flat panels

The Californian company V3Solar has developed a device called Spin Cell. It is a rotating cone covered with photovoltaic cells, which, according to the manufacturer, will generate up to twenty times more energy than a traditional panel with the same surface. Such an announcement makes the solution immediately attract attention as a potential novelty in photovoltaics.

Classic panels are flat and must be positioned at the right angle to make the most of the sun’s rays. Spin Cell works differently. It is a structure composed of hundreds of triangular links creating a conical shape. This allows the device to use sunlight more effectively, regardless of the angle of incidence of the rays.

The photovoltaic cone rotates and catches light all day long

An additional element of this structure is movement. The cone rotates around its own axis all the time, which is intended to ensure even illumination of the cells during the day. According to the manufacturer, it is the combination of form and mechanics that allows for much higher efficiency than standard PV panels. At the same time, this solution eliminates the need to use sun tracking systems.

The manufacturer also emphasizes one more advantage. The conical shape is intended to ensure more effective cooling of the device. Constant movement means that individual parts of the cells do not overheat so easily, which is intended to limit the problem of loss of efficiency. In practice, this would mean longer operation at optimal levels and greater savings for the user.

The photovoltaic cone may be a new direction for renewable energy

V3Solar argues that Spin Cell can become a standard in modern photovoltaics. The company also assumes the possibility of using this technology in hybrid systems that would combine the cone with other renewable energy sources. This shows that the device is not presented only as a curiosity, but as a solution with wider applications.

For now, it is difficult to talk about a full breakthrough, but the idea itself shows that the development of renewable energy is no longer limited only to improving known panels. Photovoltaic cone is part of the search for more efficient ways of using solar energy. If the manufacturer’s announcements are confirmed, the market may gain a technology that will significantly expand the current approach to photovoltaics.
