The new coach is charmed by Iga Świątek. “He is a role model for others”

Iga Świątek

Wim Fissette spoke for the first time after starting cooperation with Iga Świątek. The Belgian said beautiful words about the Polish tennis player. He ended everything with a phrase we all know well.

On Thursday, Iga Świątek announced that Wim Fissette will be her new coach. The Belgian will replace Tomasz Wiktorowski, who has been working with Świątek since the beginning of the 2022 season. Under the coach’s leadership, the Raszyn native won four Grand Slam titles, won bronze at the Olympic Games, won the WTA Finals and became the leader of the WTA ranking for many weeks. This is, of course, the most important of this duo’s successes. But now it’s time for a new chapter.

Fissette excited to work with Świątek

A relatively young but already highly experienced coach joined the team of the best Polish tennis player. Fissette is 44 years old and led 10 players on the tour. Virtually all of them significantly improved their level of play. Now the Belgian will do everything to make Świątek better in those elements of tennis that she lacks. Through the player’s staff, he shared his first words after the 23-year-old’s official employment.

“I am very excited to work with Iga. I had the opportunity to meet her in 2018, when she won her junior Wimbledon, when my then player Angelique Kerber won the senior title. From the evening I met Iga, I watched her development, but I also had the pleasure of sharing the court with her during the training sessions of the players I worked with, and often in fierce matches,” the Belgian said in a press release.

Fissette listed the characteristics of Świątek

The famous trainer also briefly presented the features of Świątek that impress him the most. Interestingly, he ended his statement with the characteristic phrase “Jazda, Iga!”, which is often used by fans.

“Iga is a role model for many players thanks to the constant intensity with which she plays and her focus on her work. I am all the more excited about this cooperation, hoping that we will both improve and strive to fulfill our sports dreams. Go, Iga!” – he added.

During his coaching career, Fissette led his players to six Grand Slam titles. Three of them were won by Kim Clijsters, one by Angelique Kerber and two by Naomi Osaka. With Świątek there will be a chance to expand this achievement.
