The mysterious underground attraction on the Baltic Sea will open for tourists. Only bats have lived here so far

Zbiornik Stara Orunia w Gdańsku

Already on June 1, the opportunity to visit old Orunia will return. This underground attraction will make a great impression on tourists.

The 150-year-old Stara Orunia water reservoir will soon open for visitors. After a break of several months, during which only bats living in it could see this place, tourists will again enter the mysterious Tri -City underground. This unusual attraction can be visited as part of the Gdańsk water supply trail, which is composed of two other underground tanks. “Being here, we can experience ascetic sensations. There is not much water now, but the tank is highlighted. We have the impression that these are medieval times,” says Monika Kasprzak, an archaeologist and a guide in an interview with Dziennik Baltycki.

Underground attraction by the sea

This attraction of Gdańsk is 156 years old, and still few people know about it. I am talking about the Stara Orunia water tank at Kampinoska Street. Until the 1970s, this object performed a very important function for the inhabitants of Gdańsk, because it was here that the drinking water reservoir was located. Then the place became a tourist attraction, as well as the largest habitat of bats in the whole Pomerania, which allowed it to be qualified as the Natura 2000 area. “There was a time that even about 500 pieces were wintering here. Now there are less, but this is still a substantial number. Orruan bats are gacks, nights, including very rare and threatened with the liberation of the shielding, says Monika Kasprzak.

Entrance from June 1

The first tourists will go to the underground of Orunia on June 1. There is not much time for sightseeing, because last year the attraction closed on August 31. This place is also not available every day. Individual visits are served only on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at selected hours. An admission ticket, which can be reserved earlier online, costs PLN 20.
