The MP waived her immunity. He wants to face his torturer
Katarzyna Kotula waived her parliamentary immunity to face a former sports activist. The prosecutor’s office ruled that he had sexually harassed her in the past.
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Szczecin has completed the investigation into sexual harassment allegedly experienced by Katarzyna Kotula, current MP of the Left and Minister for Equality.
Despite the statute of limitations for the act, it was confirmed that Mirosław Skrzypczyński, former president of the Polish Tennis Association (PZT) and coach at the Energetyk Gryfino club, committed violence against Kotula in the 1990s. According to the MP, Skrzypczyński sexually harassed her “at least a dozen times” during her training at a young age, when she was 13-14 years old
Kotula was molested by Skrzypczyński. The prosecutor’s office confirms
The case reached the media thanks to Kotula’s famous interview published by Onet in November 2022. The MP revealed that she was a victim of harassment by Skrzypczyński. The prosecutor’s office confirmed Kotula’s version, although prosecuting the perpetrator was impossible due to the statute of limitations.
– Behind closed doors, he touched me on my private parts… on my breasts, buttocks – she said. – I was a child, a 13- and then 14-year-old girl with blonde curls. And he – today I know it for sure – was a sexual predator – Kotula emphasized in an interview with Onet.
Although the proceedings were discontinued due to the passage of time, investigators clearly stated that Kotula was the victim of acts “directed against the sexual freedom of a minor”, which under normal circumstances could result in many years in prison for Skrzypczyński.
In its justification, the prosecutor’s office emphasized that it was a crime that had not been punished due to the statute of limitations.
Kotula is not the only victim?
Kotula, even though she could not count on justice in the form of Skrzypczyński’s conviction, decided to fight for the truth. She decided to waive her immunity to face her former coach who accused her of slander.
Additionally, Kotula emphasized that this case is intended to help other victims who are afraid to reveal their story due to shame and fear of the perpetrator. “Don’t wait until it’s too late. We are not the ones who should be ashamed. They should be responsible,” Kotula added, appealing to other victims of violence to have the courage to talk about their experiences.
Both the prosecutor’s office and Onet journalists also revealed other cases of violence and harassment that Skrzypczyński allegedly committed in later years, in other cities, but they were not sufficiently documented to initiate proceedings. In turn, the Polish Tennis Association, after conducting its own commission on this matter, did not confirm Kotula’s allegations.
