The most important Christmas attraction in the mountains. Tourists hunt it every year
This attraction arouses great interest every year. In the Beskids, tourists can still take part in highland shepherdesses.
Every year, tourists visiting mountain resorts in the south of the country take advantage of the opportunity to participate in midnight mass. These are not just ordinary Christmas Eve masses, but also unique cultural and entertainment events. Highlander music and traditional costumes add splendor to the celebration of the upcoming Christmas. It is worth looking for the most beautiful highland shepherdesses, among others: in Szczyrk and Bielsko-Biała.
Tourists visit churches more and more often
Spending Christmas in the mountains gives tourists not only a guarantee of a white Christmas. It is also a unique opportunity to observe the traditional customs of communities living in southern Poland. Visits to churches are popular among visitors, including the Midnight Masses organized on Christmas Eve. As in other parts of the country, they take place around midnight. However, they are distinguished by a special atmosphere that cannot be found anywhere else.
During services, the faithful cannot complain about too few impressions. The highlander midnight mass is a real entertainment event, during which those gathered have the opportunity to listen to traditional music performed by local artists wearing regional costumes. The instruments used include: popular violins and pipes, as well as unusual ocarinas, bagpipes and trombits. In some parishes, apart from concerts of songs and pastorals, guests can also taste highlander dishes.
Where to find highland shepherdesses?
Admission to the midnight mass is open to the public, regardless of whether we are residents of a given resort or come from another voivodeship. We can look for unique experiences, for example, in the Beskid Mountains, which are not as crowded in winter as Zakopane in the Tatra Mountains. Highland shepherdesses can be found, among others: in Szczyrk, Bielsko-Biała, Dębowiec, Straconka and Sopotnia. “This year we will be accompanied by the Klimczok Regional Band from Szczyrk. After midnight mass, on the square in front of the sanctuary, we will share the wafer, make wishes and enjoy traditional Christmas food and drinks,’ says the “na Górka” sanctuary in Szczyrk.
