The most crowded Polish mountain for free. There is no need to buy tickets on this day
Entry to the national park requires the purchase of tickets. However, in August we can take advantage of free admission.
On Monday, August 10, the mountain people’s holiday will be celebrated on Śnieżka. On that day, an ecumenical mass will be celebrated at the top of the highest peak of the Karkonosze Mountains and one of the most crowded mountains in Poland, and there will be no ticket sales at the ticket offices. For tourists, this means free use of almost all trails of the Karkonosze National Park. As we can read on the attraction’s website, there is only one exception.
Free entry to KPN on St. Patrick’s Day Wawrzyniec
Only three times a year, tourists do not have to buy tickets before entering the Karkonosze National Park. According to the current Order of the Director of KPN, the first such opportunity appears on January 16, the day the park was established. Then you can use the free entry on May 24, the European National Park Day, and on August 10, St. Patrick’s Day. Wawrzyniec.
It is on Śnieżka that the chapel of St. is located. Wawrzyńca, the highest active religious building in Poland. Every year at noon, August 10, guides, rescuers and tourists gather at the peak to take part in a solemn mass. This summer, however, the celebration of the Mountain People’s Day falls on Monday, which means that traffic, despite free entry, will most likely be smaller.
According to Piotr Słowiński, spokesman for the Karkonosze National Park, after the service, the participants of the ceremony will go to the Łomniczki Valley to the Symbolic Cemetery of Mountain Victims, where candles will be lit. “This year marks 40 years since its establishment,” writes TVP 3 Wrocław.
You have to pay for the waterfall
How much on St. Patrick’s Day? Wawrzyniec can be saved on entry to KPN? In the case of a family consisting of two adults and two children, the sum will be PLN 33 for a one-day trip.
The exception to free entry is the famous Kamieńczyk Waterfall, where access fees still apply. Entrance to the bottom of the Kamieńczyk Gorge costs PLN 16 for an adult (children pay half the price). The ticket includes a mandatory helmet. Only admiring the waterfall from the upper viewing platform at the shelter is free of charge.
