When planning autumn trips to the Tatras, it is worth considering a trip to Slovakia. Here we will find one of the most beautiful mountain trails for the whole family.

Jasosikowe Diery, or “Janosik’s Holes”, is one of the most beautiful trails on our southern neighbors’ shores. This rock paradise is a land full of waterfalls, breathtaking views, and cliffs crossed by hanging bridges. It can be found in the Mala Fatra range in the Western Carpathians, an hour’s drive from the Polish border. Walking through the Janosikowe Diery gorges takes about four hours. Good physical condition will definitely come in handy here.

Is this the most beautiful trail in Slovakia?

Looking for an idea for an active September weekend? Instagram travel profiles come to the rescue, as they are full of original destinations for your next trip. This time, on Magda Kuchta’s “Treasures from Traveling in Poland and Europe” profile, we could see one of the most beautiful hiking trails in Slovakia – Jasosikowe Diery. “The trail enchanted us from the very first steps along the valley. Behind each rock, a new view awaits and new attractive, although slippery after rain, passages. Three hours one way to Przełęcz Medzirozsutce go by really quickly,” the Instagrammer reports. This place is only an hour’s drive from the border crossing in Zwardoń. We can get to “Janosikowe Dziury” in two hours from Zakopane, and in three from Krakow. Hiking the trail should take us no more than four hours – so we can safely plan a trip to this part of the Mala Fatra range in the Western Carpathians as a one-day activity. According to Magda Kuchta, we can also find accommodation in the area. It is best to look for rental accommodation near the town of Terchova.

It’s not an easy route

Although the trail runs far from the highest peaks of the Tatras, it does not mean that it is for everyone. Tourists should prepare for numerous obstacles and difficulties. In many places, there are really steep ladders, and we often have to walk on rocks, holding on to railings. Janosik’s Diery will not be the best choice for small children. A short section of the trail in Dolne Diery will be suitable for them. “There are no steep ladders here, only wooden, relatively safe bridges,” we read. Older children can safely complete the entire route. In addition to good humor and proper footwear, adapted to the changing ground, good physical condition will also be necessary.
