The most beautiful observation tower in Europe. It is located only 35 km from Poland

Wieża widokowa w Löbau

Not far from the Polish border there is the only cast-iron observation tower in Europe. The entrance ticket costs less than PLN 10.

Spring and summer are the perfect time to discover the potential of border regions. In Löbau, Saxony, located only 35 km from Zgorzelec, Poles will find the only cast-iron observation tower preserved in Europe. This is a unique attraction that provides a panoramic view of the Zittau Mountains, and in very good weather even the peaks of the Karkonosze Mountains. We can easily get here by train from Poland, and although there is an entrance fee, it probably won’t break our wallet.

Observation tower in Löbau on the border with Poland

Not only the Czech Republic is famous for its observation towers. Interesting structures and beautiful landscapes can also be found in Germany. One of the places worth visiting on a free day or weekend is the tower in Löbau, built in honor of King Frederick Augustus II of Saxony. “It is an absolute unique item that you will not find anywhere else on our continent,” we read on the Gryfy w Podróży travel blog.

Its uniqueness is due to its unimpressive height (the tower is 28 meters high) and its material – a cast iron structure from 1854. No similar facility has survived to this day in Europe. Tourists who take advantage of the attraction can see the panorama from three 360-degree balconies located at 12, 18 and 24 meters. The attraction was demolished once, in 1993, in order to restore parts of it. The structure was rebuilt in the same form as before the following year.

Tickets for less than PLN 10

Although many observation towers offer free entry to tourists, Löbau is an exception. Ticket prices, however, are low – for the opportunity to climb the mountain, you will only pay 2 euros per person. However, please remember that the machine downstairs only accepts coins. The attraction is open in the summer season every day from 10:00 to 20:00. There is also a free parking lot on the hill where the tower was built.

However, travelers recommend hiking, which allows you to admire the richness of nature of the Lusatian Foothills. “While hiking to the top, you pass natural deciduous forests covered with fertile, volcanic soil, which gives this place a unique, almost primeval microclimate,” we read.

You can of course reach Löbau by car, but there are also convenient train connections from the border town of Görlitz.
