Warnings against traveling to the popular country have appeared on the website of the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The situation changed after the elections.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly advises against all travel within the entire territory of Tanzania. After the presidential elections on October 29, there were violent protests in the capital Dar es Salaam and in many places around the country. The government decided to impose a curfew and the army was taken to the streets. There are problems with internet connectivity as well as flight cancellations. It may also be dangerous in the autonomous territory of Zanzibar, which is popular among tourists.
Violent protests in Tanzania after the elections
On October 29, 2025, Samia Suluhu Hassan won again the presidential elections in Tanzania. According to official data, the incumbent president won 98 percent of the votes, which was met with a massive wave of protests across the country. “Currently, the number of deaths in Dar es Salaam is about 350, and in Mwanza over 200. Adding data from other places in the country, the total number of victims of the protests is about 700,” says John Kitoka, spokesman for the opposition Chadema party.
The government reacted immediately by introducing a curfew throughout the country. Internet and mobile phone disruptions were also reported.
Difficulties for tourists
According to the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, there is a risk of further escalation of social sentiment in the country. Therefore, the facility asks people to refrain from any unnecessary travel throughout the territory of the United Republic of Tanzania and to avoid gatherings. “If you find yourself near a demonstration, move to a safe place and follow the recommendations and messages of local security structures,” we read on the government website. There is also a high risk of terrorist attacks.
Tourists who are already in Tanzania may also experience serious transport problems. In recent days, there have been flight cancellations at major airports in the country, including Zanzibar International Airport.
