The Minister appeals. Quick help for the injured
Universities in Poland are mobilizing to quickly support students affected by the flood through scholarships, grants and additional forms of assistance.
The floods in southwestern Poland have had a significant impact on the lives of many students. The Ministry of Science and Higher Education, represented by Minister Dariusz Wieczorek, has called on universities to give priority consideration to applications for financial aid for affected students. The request includes both social grants and one-time aid, as well as the provision of places in student dormitories.
Rectors from all over the country responded to the appeal, declaring support for students and their families. In addition to financial aid, universities offer exemptions from fees for accommodation, educational services and access to psychological support. In the case of insufficient funds from scholarship funds, it is possible to apply for additional subsidies.
The academic community does not limit itself to financial support. Universities organize collections in kind and financially, such as the Medical University of Warsaw, which collected funds for the District Hospital in Nysa. The University Clinical Center of the Medical University of Warsaw declares its readiness to accept patients from affected facilities.
Minister Wieczorek stressed the importance of universities responding quickly to the crisis, appealing for ongoing information about threats and making resources, such as dormitories, available to flood victims. Preparations for possible further flood waves include securing infrastructure and mobilizing volunteers, which shows the university’s commitment to helping the local community.
