The luxury of intimacy – silence, light, space

Luxury today is time, and the task of architecture is to protect it through a functional layout, ease of maintenance, and ergonomics that eliminate chaos.

Just a decade ago, luxury in Poland was measured by gloss. Shiny granite, piano shine of kitchen fronts, gleam of chrome in the bathroom. Today this definition sounds like a quote from another era. The modern elite – especially women who build or furnish their own houses and apartments – are increasingly looking for space not as a manifesto of status, but also for intimacy. Luxury becomes sensual, not visual. Interiors are supposed to soothe, not impress.

The change occurred not only in aesthetic terms. This is a consequence of social maturation – after years of aspirations, copying Western patterns and excitement about the “premium” label, there was a need for authenticity. Luxury today is the ability to choose: silence instead of noise, light instead of decorations, quality instead of quantity.

Architects Marta Iglewska and Radek Wójcik from the Interiorsy studio emphasize that luxury in interiors today is more of an experience than a visible declaration.

– In addition to the visual aspects, luxury engages the senses, causing pleasant feelings and impressions. They make us believe that the interior is an oasis of relaxation and harmony – they explain.

Materials with soul – a new type of responsibility

Marble, wood, linen, stone – not as decoration, but as a raw material with a history. Contemporary luxurious interiors are moving away from “ideal” surfaces. Wealthy investors increasingly choose textured materials that age with dignity. Solid oak boards, limestone plasters, hand-formed tiles.

The origin of the material becomes important – who produced it, under what conditions, and whether it comes from local sources. This is not snobbery, but a new kind of responsibility. Home is no longer just a stage for life, but a participant in it. Hence the trend for “living” materials that acquire a patina over time instead of requiring replacement. All this is the quintessence of the quiet luxury style.
