The longest scenic trail in the world is being created here. It is almost five times longer than Poland
In just a few weeks, the first section of the longest circular trail in the world will be made available to tourists. This unique attraction will attract hiking enthusiasts.
Portugal is preparing to open a unique tourist attraction. The world's longest circular route is intended to restore balance in tourism and relieve the crowded coastline. The first section of the route from the village of Alenquer will be open to visitors in July, and the remaining sections will be ready by the end of the year. The total length of the “Palmilhar Portugal” trail will be almost five times longer than the length of Poland.
The longest trail in the world
This summer, Portugal will delight tourists with another extraordinary attraction. It should be of particular interest to lovers of long hikes. In July, the first section of the “Palmilhar Portugal” route, the longest circular route in the world, will be opened. The road leading through the coast, cities and mountains will allow tourists to discover all the colors of Portugal over a length of three thousand kilometers. This is five times longer than the distance that separates the northernmost and southernmost points of Poland. The first section, starting in the village of Alenquer north of Lisbon, will be ready in a few weeks. The remaining 15 pieces will be released by the end of the year.
Portugal is fighting against excessive tourism
“Palmilhar Portugal” will be the world's longest circular route, i.e. a route in which the start and finish are in the same place. However, it is far from the longest linear trail – the Trans Canada Trail is 24,000 kilometers long. The Portuguese attraction was created to encourage tourists to discover places located far from the most popular towns. In this way, the authorities are trying to combat the consequences of excessive tourism, which is a big problem in Lisbon and on the coast in the Algavre region. Some parts of the trail will also be available to cyclists and people with reduced mobility.
