The legendary coach has died. The Pole was the world record holder
This is an extremely sad day for sports Wrocław. Jan Sły is dead. A distinguished football coach died at the age of 96.
The story of Jan Słaby was, is and will be absolutely unique – looking at the history of sports – not only in terms of the capital of Lower Silesia. He is a man who, at the age of only 14, served with dedication in the ranks of the Home Army during World War II. And in 1952 he began to be a coach.
Jan Sły is dead. A very sad day for sport in Wrocław
Jan Sły successfully trained goalkeepers. He was an active trainer almost until the end of his life. A lot of good energy flowing from this man always made a great impression. She was a unique character, going far beyond any stereotypes associated with advanced age.
Let us add that Słyby was associated with the Parasol Wrocław Youth Sports Club. The activist of the Lviv Lovers’ Society was a true legend of Wrocław sport.
“Mr. Jan was the oldest active trainer in the world – a title that perfectly reflected his extraordinary passion and commitment. Thanks to him, we have trained many outstanding players, including: Jakub Wrąbel, who represented Śląsk Wrocław. His life is proof that sport is not only about results, but above all about the people who create its history. Coach Jan Sły was the foundation of our club, an authority and an example for young generations. His absence will leave a huge void in Parasol Wrocław. On behalf of the entire club community, we express our condolences to his family, loved ones and everyone who had the privilege of knowing and working with Mr. Jan. Dear Coach, thank you for everything you have done for us and for Polish football. Your legacy will remain with us forever, and the values you passed on will guide us in the years to come,” we read on the Parasol website.
Jacek Sutryk also wrote about the passing of this fantastic man. In recent years, he has emphasized several times how important Sły was for sports in Wrocław.
“Jan Słyby, an exceptional resident of Wrocław, has died. One of the oldest football coaches, former coach of MKS Parasol Wrocław, active until the very end. In 2020 – the year of the 75th anniversary of post-war Wrocław, we thanked its pioneer with the highest distinction for what he did for the city and for local sport. Coach, we will never forget you,” wrote the president of Wrocław on social media.
