The Ukrainian company took over the Kalisz Calfrost, released the entire crew and put up the plant for sale. The price dropped by half, because there are no people willing.

Two years ago, the Ukrainian company took over the Kalisz plant Calfrost, released the entire crew and put up the area for sale – counting on a development investor. Only that he did not appear. So the price was reduced by half. Now the former plants at ul. Wrocławska in Kalisz with a total area of almost 3 hectares can be bought for PLN 5.8 million.

Perturbations of the Kalisz Calfrostu

The ownership changes at the Kalisz plant began at the end of 2023. At that time, the Polish ice cream producer and Nordis frozen food was purchased by the Ukrainian frozen producer “Three Bears”, whose founder was Dmytro Ushmaev. The new owners then assured that the takeover of Nordis does not mean the liquidation of Polish brands, and their main goal is to be the development of the producer on the domestic market, export to the West and cooperation with the Ukrainian part of Ushmaeva’s business.

“For us, going abroad is a logical step, because the European market is developed enough and is still growing,” Ushmaev said two years ago.

Kalisz Calfrost was unprofitable

According to Portalspiwski.pl, the Ukrainian company planned to invest in production in Poland, especially since the production capacity of the Polish factory was half as much as production in Ukraine plants. The export of Polish products to the European market was also planned. It’s just that the plans ended, because immediately after the takeover of the Kalisz plant, all employees were dismissed. Reason? According to the president of Nordis, the plant was unprofitable and outdated.

– The main reason for closing the plant is unprofitability. The plant is very old and this plant as frozenia is already ineffective, it consumes so much electricity and other media that it is uncompetitive compared to other modern producers – said Kostiardn Valchuk, president of Nordis last year, said “Kalisz Facts”.

All employees were dismissed

The whole crew was on the pavement – 52 people. The new company owner in a letter notifying PUPs about group layoffs did not provide reason for the decision. Kalisz PUP was to propose the company to train dismissed, but the company did not respond to the letter and the meeting with employees did not occur.

Nobody wants Kalisz Calfrost?

The plant was put up for sale for nearly PLN 13 million.

– All machines are in place, sales as a comprehensive plant, nothing was moved, it all depends on the customer. We would like to be interested in the offer of developers – said the president of Nordis last year. He added that the potential investor can theoretically buy a plant and resume its original activity, but the whole area is attractive in terms of housing investment.

Only that the investor did not find himself. According to “Facts of Kalisz”, the potential customer was supposedly, but he required that the seller to demolish the buildings of the plant at their own expense. The transaction did not take place, so the owner lowered the price. Now the plant can be purchased for PLN 5,800,000.

Dead silence on the Kalisz Calfrost

We contacted both the management of Nordis and the President of the City of Kalisz to obtain a comment on the sale of the Calfrost plant. Unfortunately, until the publication of this material we did not receive any answer from the Ukrainian company or local government.
