The Jizera factory is still in the field. Money from the EU may go sideways
The government is still willing to build the passenger car factory in Jaworzno announced by its predecessors. However, the work is progressing very slowly, and one of the threads is already being investigated by the prosecutor’s office. Too long a delay will deprive the company of any chance of receiving money from the KPO.
ElectroMobility Poland, which is to build a factory for Polish electric cars, hoped that the plant would start construction in the first quarter of 2024. Today we know that if the investment is only delayed for a year, it will still be fine. A serious problem appeared in July: the Industrial Development Agency reported to the prosecutor’s office doubts about last year’s loan from Jizera. Its aim was to co-finance the purchase of a plot of land in Jaworzno from the city of Jaworzno. The prosecutor’s office has already heard the first witnesses in this case.
The Jizera factory is still in the field. Literally
Regardless of the actions taken by the authorities, work on building the factory was not suspended. If the Industrial Development Agency is to be believed, the doubtful contracts have been annexed and further arrangements are in progress.
Straightening the contract is one thing, but a delay may prevent you from using a loan from the National Reconstruction Plan. For Izera to be able to apply for PLN 3.5 billion on very good terms, by mid-2026 it should have infrastructure enabling the production of 100,000. zero-emission vehicles per year. Considering that the plot is still covered with grass, this may not be feasible.
Confidential talks are ongoing
According to Business Insider Polska, the most important thing is still missing – closing the financing that will allow the construction of the plant. Until the talks are completed, the contract for the construction of the plant will not be signed. “The selection of Mirbud SA as the general contractor of the production plant in Jaworzno is still valid. The contract will be signed and the investment process will begin after securing the financial resources necessary to complete the task,” EMP assures.
Talks with all interested parties: the Ministry of State Assets, banks and financial institutions are ongoing. EMP argues that it is in constant contact with the Chinese company Geely, which is a technological partner, but would also like to produce its cars in Jaworzno. Details of the conversations are confidential.
