The islands rarely visited in Europe. There are no crowds or sunbeds
The Baltic Sea has many surprises. Not all tourists know how many islands left to discover here.
The Baltic States are still a relatively niche direction of Poles’ trips. Most often, tourists choose close Lithuania, and few decide to discover Latvia and Estonia lying north north. Even fewer people reach the island almost on the edge of Europe. Ruhnu, Muhu, Sarema, Kihn, Vormsi and Hiuma These are mysteriously sounding names of smaller and larger scraps of land without crowds and sunbeds. Only a few hundred people live on some.
Estonian islands in the Baltic Sea
Asked Poles about the most famous island in the Baltic Sea, they usually remember Bornholm. However, Danish territory is not the only place worth visiting when exploring northern Europe. The islands belonging to Estonia, which according to various sources, can still be counted from 2100 to 2300 remain undiscovered. Some of them are only tiny, virgin scraps of land, inaccessible to ordinary tourists. However, we can get to many with public ferries. The largest of them, residing for about 30,000 people, the island of Sarema has already been discovered by tourists. Smaller, Ruhn or Hiuma are also waiting for their turn.
The least visited in Europe
“Ruhnu is one of the rarest islands in Europe. Located about 70 kilometers from the coast of Estonia, it has only 150 official residents,” writes Euronews in a recent article. It is difficult to find sunbeds here, and the most noise is not tourists, but the sand creaking under their feet. There is also the oldest wooden church in history. “There are also secret beaches that no one else will visit, mystical trees and visible ruins from old eras, as well as places where you can look for rare birds and watch seals sitting on stones” – we read.
Getting here is not as difficult as it may seem. In winter, tourists can get to the island of a small, eight -seater aircraft, and in the summer ships that can accommodate about 50 people. Latvia cruises are also available in the summer.
