The head of the Polish Olympic Committee has been elected! This is Radosław Piesiewicz’s successor
Marian Kmita became the new president of the Polish Olympic Committee. The decision was made on Monday (i.e. September 14) during the management board meeting.
Marian Kmita is a long-time director of Polsat Sport and current vice-president of the Polish Olympic Committee. He was chosen as the man at the head of the Polish Olympic movement.
Radosław Piesiewicz was dismissed as head of the Polish Olympic Committee for this.
Let us recall that the former head of the Polish Olympic Committee was detained on August 27 this year by officers of the Central Bureau for Combating Cybercrime. The action was related to the investigation into the collapsed Zondacrypto cryptocurrency exchange. He was charged on the same day.
Two days later, the District Court of Katowice-Wschód granted the application for temporary arrest against Radosław Piesiewicz. The former president of the Polish Olympic Committee will spend three months in custody.

We reported on Kmita’s high chances of taking power at the beginning of last week, i.e. on September 8, in WPROST. Then, all authorized representatives of the presidium of the board of the Polish Olympic Committee appeared at the Olympic Center.
Kmita could count on the most important faction on the Polish Olympic Committee’s board. And this was crucial in the context of support and the election of this vice president as Piesiewicz’s successor.
On what grounds will Piesiewicz resign from his current position? We are talking about art. 21 of the POC Status. It indicates the situation of “the inability of the President of the Polish Olympic Committee to perform his function”.
It is worth recalling that for the crimes Piesiewicz is suspected of committing, he faces from six months to even eight years in prison. He was supposed to act to the detriment of creditors by recovering funds invested on the bankrupt stock exchange at the expense of other investors. The next allegation concerns paid patronage and invoking influence in the Office of Competition and Consumer Protection.
The newly elected president will serve until April 2027.
