The head of NASK warns against the 2027 elections. Russia’s influence may prove destructive
Before the 2027 elections, NASK is afraid of an influx of fake candidate accounts. The institute wants to train election committees and warns against a wave of disinformation.
Magdalena Wilczyńska, head of the cyberspace information protection department at NASK, talks in an interview for “Newsweek” about the risk of impersonating parliamentary candidates. According to the director of the state institution responsible for cybersecurity, there will be over 6,000 of them in our country, and monitoring such a number of profiles will prove to be very difficult. NASK wants to train the committees in security and prepare special channels for them to report fake accounts.
Elections 2027. The influence of bots and AI influencers pose a threat to the course of the campaign
Wilczyńska predicts that chatbots and influencers generated by artificial intelligence may be used to spread disinformation. NASK analyzes campaigns in other countries to prepare for the Polish elections. Recognizing bots will become increasingly difficult: they can already alter published content, making it difficult to demonstrate that multiple accounts are acting together.
The expert also describes how Russian narratives penetrate the Polish debate. NASK traces their sources and ways of dissemination, but the mere sharing of the message does not prove cooperation with Russia. Wilczyńska points out that highly polarizing topics combine authentic opinions with manipulation.
NASK reported 65 thousand accounts and content in half a year. What do platforms do about it?
According to Wilczyńska, in the first half of 2026, NASK directed 65,000 to the platforms. reports regarding accounts and content. Throughout 2025, there were 45-46 thousand of them. According to her, 60-80 percent content reported in 2025 was removed or moderated. However, it sometimes happens that the platform does not take action against the reported bot network or only deletes some of the accounts.
“Time is also important. False information can circulate on social media in a few hours, while the platform’s reaction takes up to a week.” – points out the expert.
Therefore, NASK wants to develop tools to analyze not only the content itself, but also the methods of its dissemination.
