The greatest dangers when submitting e-PIPs. The expert warns

Czy rozliczenie PIT-u online jest bezpieczne?

Over 5 million PITs already submitted by “Your E-PIT”! How to safely settle online and avoid phishing traps?

“We already have over 5 million tax returns made in the Twój E-PiT service!” – The Ministry of Finance informed at the end of March on the Platform X.

Online settlements are gaining popularity every year. “Your e-pit operates around the clock and can be used on any device connected to the Internet,” reminds the Ministry of Finance, indicating that your e-PIT service is also available this year from the Mobile application level of the Tax Office.

As the expert emphasizes, it is best to use the official pages of the tax administration, such as taxes.gov.pl.

– This is the most trusted and safe place to start the online settlement process. When logging in to the tax e-mail, use safe authentication methods (i.e. identity recognition) offered by the Login.gov.pl platform, such as a trusted profile, e-person, electronic banking or the Mobatwan application-explains Bogdan Zatorski in an interview with “Wprost”, Bogdan Zatorski, head of business analysis and legal requirements, at Symfonia.

E-PIT settlement-watch out for phishing

How to settle securely online? First of all, keep vigilant. The expert points out that one of the most common threats is phishing, i.e. an attempt to extort personal and financial data through false websites or e-mails impersonating the Ministry of Finance, the National Tax Administration (KAS) or other institutions associated with tax settlements.

– Fraudsters can create pages confusingly similar to official websites, asking for confidential data such as PESEL numbers, online banking passwords or payment card data. Very often they also disseminate harmful software using fake links in e-mails or SMS-explains Bogdan Zatorski.

Settlement of e-PiT-check applications

Another element of the secure PIT settlement, which is worth paying attention to is the issue of sending data completed declaration. The expert advises to use only trustworthy suppliers.

– Before installing the application, it is worth checking its grades, opinions and number of downloads. Using applications for personal pit annual settlements is usually free. Applications, in addition to the process of calculating the declaration, also include substantive support by indicating references to specific, current regulations. The data needed to prepare the declaration is stored and processed on the local computer, and only the ready declaration is transferred to the KAS goal – explains Zatorski and emphasizes that storage of data on the computer does not give 100 percent. security guarantee. Why?

– For a very simple reason. A local computer can also be infected with malware – warns the expert.

E-pit settlement-watch out for false messages

No less important aspect is tax payment, i.e. the stage after the transfer of the tax declaration. As the expert notes, it is more and more frequent practice to send fake email or SMSs informing about the alleged tax overpaper tax or the need to correct the PIT declaration.

– These messages contain links leading to infected websites or pages extorting login details. Criminals can also call taxpayers, impersonating tax officials and trying to convince them to disclose confidential information or making cash transfers – says Zatorski.

The expert emphasizes that you should be vigilant, because tax offices never ask for data access to online banking or credit card numbers by phone or e-mail.
