The Great Tragedy of Piotr Lisek. “A Small, Innocent Part of Us and a Part of Us Died”

Piotr Lisek recently took part in the Olympic Games. They did not go according to plan, as he did not manage to pass the qualification stage. A dozen or so days after the competition, the leading Polish pole vaulter shared sad news. He wants to end all the speculation that has recently appeared around his family.

The World and European Championship medalist published a long mourning post on his social media on Saturday. In it, he informed about the unimaginable loss that has befallen his family. “I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemies, and I feel very sorry for the people who have suffered such a loss as we have,” the 32-year-old begins the publication. He goes on to mention the helplessness and death of “a small, innocent part of us.”

Lisek has been married to athlete Aleksandra Wiśnik for years. They have a daughter, Lilianna, and a son, Paweł. The athlete recently announced on social media that he and his wife are expecting another child.

“I don’t know if I’ve ever experienced or witnessed such suffering. As a father, I don’t want to imagine what a mother feels. I’m grateful for my daughter Liliana and son Paweł, because they give us superhuman strength today for tomorrow,” wrote Lisek. “I decided to write such a post solely to end “this” grapevine, in which every inquiry only tears open a wound that I see no chance of healing. With each passing day, I realize that postponing this topic simply makes no sense,” added the Polish representative.

Piotr Lisek is a three-time medalist of the world championships in the stadium and two-time in the hall. In 2017, he won the competition in the European Indoor Championships in Belgrade. He remains the Polish record holder in the pole vault to this day. In September 2023, he appeared in MMA for the first time, competing with Dariusz Kaźmierczuk at the Fame Friday Arena 2 gala.
