The great return of Adam Nawałka! He is the creator of the successes of the Polish national team

Adam Nawałka

Since 2019, coach Adam Nawałka has not officially coached any team. It is possible that this will change in the coming weeks.

Adam Nawałka is not only a coach, but years ago one of the greatest talents of Polish football. Former Polish representative, participant of, among others, world championship in 1978, but he had major problems with injuries during his career. For this reason, Nawałka failed to develop his talent. However, it is no secret that he is a player of Wisła Kraków, of which he is a student, and years later he was also the coach of Biała Stara.

Adam Nawałka’s return? This could be a big hit in the PKO BP Ekstraklasa!

However, it may turn out that we will have the opportunity to see Nawałka coaching again not in his hometown of Krakow, but in Łódź. His name appeared in the context of Widzew’s investment in a new coach.

“The number of transfers carried out and the large amount of money spent on bringing in new players indicated that Widzew would want to fight for the highest goals. Meanwhile, the Łódź team was a complete disappointment and a football failure. The beginning of the competition was below expectations, which is why Željko Sopić lost his job. He was succeeded by Patryk Czubak, but even this change did not bring much. Now information has appeared in the community that Former national team coach Adam Nawałka is being considered to take over the position of the four-time Polish champions,” we read in Jan Hofman’s text in “Express Ilustrowany”.

Widzew is actually playing far below expectations. After 10 matches played, the Łódź team has only 10 points and, more than ahead of themselves, they have to nervously look behind their backs, towards the relegation zone, by posing serious sporting challenges.

Robert Dobrzycki invested in the Łódź club this year. The Polish billionaire and co-owner of the Panattoni development company has taken over most of the shares of Widzew from Łódź and intends to strongly attack not only the highest goals in Poland, but also compete in European competitions.

Would hiring Nawałka be a step in the right direction? You can certainly have exceptionally good associations with this trainer, recalling his period of work in the Polish national team. The Poles advanced to the memorable quarterfinals at Euro 2016. However, the World Cup two years later (2018) was much less successful, where Poland failed to get through the group stage, and Nawałka eventually parted ways with the Polish Football Association after the tournament.

It was even worse in the coach’s last job, as the head of Lech Poznań. Nawałka was supposed to be a breath of new quality for Kolejorz, and ultimately he served as coach only from the end of November 2018 to March 2019.

Nawałka was also considered several times to return as the coach of the Polish national team. Ultimately, however, the PZPN chose a different candidate each time. The closest he came to a return was at the turn of 2021 and 2022, when the president of the Polish Football Association, Cezary Kulesza, chose Czesław Michniewicz as Paulo Sousa’s successor.
