The government will spend 150 million on sports. Sławomir Nitras revealed who will receive the money
As much as PLN 150 million. The Ministry of Sport and Tourism has allocated this amount for an investment program of particular importance for the sports part of the country.
It was on Saturday (i.e. December 21) that the list of those pre-qualified for funding from the mentioned program was announced. This includes both co-financing existing facilities through modernization and the construction of new, necessary places for the further development of sports in Poland.
Minister Sławomir Nitras on the reasons for co-financing the Wanda Kraków facility
Kraków will receive the most from the government funds. Specifically, the Wanda club. As much as PLN 21 million will be allocated to the construction of a real sports hall.
– It’s the first time I have the opportunity to be here. I admit, this is a special moment for me. This will not be a courtesy, but since I was a child I considered Andrzej Iwan (a pupil of Wanda Kraków, note by eMPe) to be one of the most outstanding Polish footballers. I once saw a young Wayne Rooney. And I said: This is the second Ivan! That’s why I’m very pleased to be able to host such a distinguished club. And I am glad that my stay here is related to good news – admitted the head of the Ministry of Sport and Tourism.
Minister Nitras also explained where the idea for Wanda Kraków came from. As it turns out, the capital of Lesser Poland has had a bizarre problem for years. Namely… the lack of any hall that could be used strictly for league games.
– I’ll tell you why. First of all, it is obviously a distinguished club. But the main reason is that in Krakow there is no hall for typical league games. Tauron Arena is, of course, a large, beautiful facility. But its function, apart from the sporting one, is commercial, concert and spectacular. Kraków must have a hall where league games are held in various indoor sports. And today, the fact that there is no such hall, I think is one of the main reasons why Krakow clubs are quite modestly represented in league competitions in Poland. That’s why we had no doubt that Krakow needed such a hall for 2-3 thousand people, because that’s what the project was going to be. And, as I mentioned, I am personally glad that it will be here – Nitras emphasized once again.
