Currently, men have little chance of obtaining a supplementary benefit, the so -called “Mama 4 Plus”. As “Rzeczpospolita” established, the government wants to change it.

The Act on parental supplementary benefit in force since March 2019 introduced maternal pensions. It is about providing benefits to people who gave up professional activity to be able to raise children. Mothers may apply for such a pension after the age of 60, who gave birth and raised (or only raised) at least four children, hence the colloquial term for the benefit “mama 4 plus”. Its amount is equal to the amount of the minimum pension (from March this year it is PLN 1878.91 gross).

As “Rzeczpospolita” notes, as a rule, the same help is granted to fathers who raised children after their mother’s death, either after her abandoning her family or when she ceased to raise their offspring for a long time. To receive a benefit, the Applicant must be 65 years old, live in Poland and have a “center of life interests” here for at least ten years and settle accounts with the tax office.

Mama 4 Plus to a greater extent for fathers? There will be changes

However, as the data of the Social Insurance Institution (ZUS) shows, out of 105,438 applications for parental supplementary benefit, only 667 are documents submitted by men (state at the end of May). Why so little? As the newspaper indicates, this is related to the fact that the benefit is granted to fathers to a very limited extent. The Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy wants to change this.

The changes that the ministry plans in the Act on parental supplementary benefit relate to the situation of fathers. The construction of premises for acquiring the right to this benefit puts them in a worse position. For example, a man who dealt with children in a larger dimension than a woman, abandoned his professional work and did not acquire the right to a minimum pension. This is inconsistent with the constitution. The case concerns few people, but we will want to solve it – says “Rzeczpospolita” deputy head of the ministry Sebastian Gajewski.
