Mateusz Hempe, goalkeeper of the Polish deaf football team, has died. As reported by Onet, a Noteć Czarnków player died while trying to retrieve the ball that fell into the river.
The player’s death was announced on Monday, November 4. Krzysztof Łuczywko, associated with local football, wrote on social media that Mateusz Hempe was carried away by the river current. A Noteć Czarnków player tried to save the ball that fell into the water during training.

Onet journalists confirmed the drowning in an interview with the Greater Poland police. The tragic death of Mateusz Hempe was also written about on the social media profile of the Polish national team of the deaf.
“We will never be ready for such news…. Today, the Polish Deaf National Team lost a very dedicated player, Mateusz Hempe. A long-time representative of the Polish Deaf in football and futsal as a goalkeeper,” it was reported.
“The Management Board of the Polish Deaf Sports Association and the training staff together with the players express their condolences to the family,” the statement added. Hempe was a graduate of the club from Czarnków, for which he had been playing on and off since 2011. He was loaned to the teams Wenus Jędrzejowo and Tęcza-Osa Osieczna. He was 32 years old.
