The gigantic bad luck of Polish champions. It can’t be in your head!

Robert Gumny

Lech Poznań on Tuesday (i.e. August 12) played a rematch match of the 3rd round of elimination to the Champions League. Unfortunately, the match in Belgrade began terribly for Poles.

The rival of Polish champions is Belgradka Crven Zvezda. In the first meeting of the two -legged, played in Poznań, Lech lost clearly 1: 3.

Poznanians, however, want to show their best side in meeting number 2. Polish champions started the match in hot Serbian area, promising. Unfortunately, Kolejorz lost another player after five minutes. Another, because the Polish team at the opening of the 2025/26 season has a lot of injuries in their ranks.

This time it fell on Robert Gumny. The former Polish representative, who was put in an unusual position, as right -wing, was fouled by the opponent and, as it turned out, the entrance – valued at the yellow card – ultimately did not allow the player to continue playing the player of Kolejorz.

Coach Niels Frederixen has not been using the services of Daniel Hakans and Patrik Walemarek for several weeks, and the list of injured players is still extended. In addition, the lack of Filip Jagiełło, Ali Gholizadeh, but Alex Douglas and Radosław Murawski are also absent. With such deficiencies, it is difficult to optimism in the ranks of Kolejorz.

Ultimately, the Polish champions managed to draw 1: 1 in Belgrade. The tie was provided by the visitors’ by the very end by Captain Mikael Ishak. However, the Swede came to wipe away tears, because the Polish team said goodbye to the dreams of the Champions League – at least in the 2025/26 season.

Lech Poznań six attempts. Difficult Polish road to the UEFA Champions League

The two -time Belgrade with Crvena Zvezda in the third round of the Champions League qualifying was another, sixth attempt to cross the gates of the most prestigious games from the UEFA stable.

Kolejorz, looking at the history of the existence of the Champions League (i.e. from the 1992/93 season), for the first time stood up to the elimination struggle in the premiere edition, after changing the name from the European Cup of Club Champions (1956-92).

The first rival that turned out to be better than Lech was the Swedish IFK Göteborg, in the second round. Then, the 1993/94 season and defeat at the same stage with Spartak Moscow. The next approach is the 21st century and the 2010/11 campaign.

Sparta Praga turned out to be better in the third round. Then the 2015/16 season and losing (also the third round) with the Swiss FC Basel. And the penultimate – including still ongoing – 2022/23, compromising slip -up in the first round of the elimination with Azeri -Karabakh.
