The Geneva passport does not guarantee Ziobro. Many countries may not let him in
Zbigniew Ziobro had an ace up his sleeve, traveling with a Geneva passport issued by Hungary. However, not all countries have to honor such a document.
Zbigniew Ziobro is currently in the United States and uses a Geneva passport, which was issued to him by Hungarians after obtaining political asylum. This document is intended for people with refugee status who cannot use their country’s passport. Ziobro is in such a situation, whose passport was invalidated at the end of 2025. The document issued by Hungary allows him to travel, but does not mean full freedom of movement around the world.
Countries that may refuse entry to Ziobro
The problem is that some countries do not recognize Geneva travel documents. This concerns primarily countries that have not ratified the 1951 Convention Relating to the Status of Refugees and the subsequent 1967 Protocol.
The list of countries that may not honor such a document includes, among others: United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Oman, India, Pakistan, Thailand, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Iraq, Lebanon, Libya and Cuba.
In practice, this means that the holder of a Geneva passport may be subject to additional controls or even be refused entry.
Ziobro’s situation may become even more complicated
The former Minister of Justice can theoretically travel around the European Union and Schengen countries. Experts point out, however, that the refugee document does not protect against the actions of international law enforcement agencies or against possible decisions of individual countries.
In many countries, including Western ones, holders of Geneva passports must undergo standard visa procedures. This includes, among others: Great Britain and the USA. Therefore, every trip may involve the risk of legal or administrative problems.
The prosecutor’s office submits another application regarding the judges
On Wednesday, new information also appeared regarding the activities of the National Prosecutor’s Office against Ziobro. Investigators are demanding the exclusion of two judges dealing with cases involving the former minister. The prosecutor’s office argues that there are doubts about their impartiality. In the case of one of the judges, it was indicated, among others: to own shares of the Republika TV station, with which the politician established cooperation.
