The generation does not get sick? The youngest employees surprise with statistics

Lekarz wypisujący L4

The generation uses L4 less often than older employees. This is a clear signal for companies – young people show more responsibility.

The data published by the consulting company Conperio shows that it is not the youngest employees who most often reach for sick leave. On the contrary – people up to 29 years old, included in the so -called Generations Z, are characterized by the lowest level of sickness absence of all age groups. According to the report, the average absence rate in this group is only 2.3 percent.

Who abuses L4?

For comparison – in a 30-39 age group, this indicator reaches 3.1 percent, and among people 40-49 – 3.5 percent. Most absences applies to employees over 50 – their absence rate is as much as 4.4 percent. Data on the participation of individual age groups in the total number of absences are equally interesting. The Z generation is responsible for only 10 percent. all sick leave in companies, while people over 50 years – for 40 percent

According to Conperio experts, low absence among young employees may indicate their growing health awareness and other approach to life and work. The younger generation attaches more importance to mental and physical health, as well as to safety and comfort of work. As emphasized by Mikołaj Zając, president of Conperio, young people are more sensitive to OSH and working conditions than their parents. They also abuse L4 less often, which can mean greater responsibility and stability of this professional group.

Greater awareness

Zając adds that for many people from the work generation it is not an end in itself, but a means to implement other plans. Observing the experiences of older generations, young people often choose a change in work instead of using dishonest sick leave. Data from 2024 show that as much as 34 percent L4 in Poland was used contrary to their intended use. According to Conperio, this is a serious burden for companies – both financially and organizationally.

Experts indicate that the generation stands out positively from the background of all employees. The low number of absences in this group is a signal that builds for employers – with the appropriate approach, young people can be a valuable and stable link in the team.
