The former Polish representative has just lost his job. We know his successor!

Daniel Pliński

Daniel Pliński is the third coach who lost his job in the 2024/25 season in PlusLiga. The world vice-champion (2006) has just resigned.

PSG Stal Nysa has had very demanding months. It started at the beginning of the competition, when instead of training or matches, the club from the Opole Voivodeship faced a deadly element – fighting a flood – that affected the southern and eastern regions of Poland.

PlusLiga: Daniel Pliński was released from PSG Stal Nysa

One of those who helped save the city was first team coach Daniel Pliński. A trainer who has had a rich sports career, including successes as a Polish representative. Pliński is one of those who, after many years of decline, won silver at the world championships in 2006. As a member of the national team, he also became European champion three years later (2009).

The former center has been working in Nysa since November 2021. He then replaced Krzysztof Stelmach. Under his leadership, Stal took 13th place, and then seventh twice, qualifying for the play-offs. This season, the club from Nysa is in 14th position. It is worth adding, however, that apart from the mentioned, completely unexpected opening of the season with a flood in the background, the team has problems with injuries. The most noticeable one is the absence of Michał Gierżot, who has health problems.

“As of December 4, 2024, by agreement of the parties, STAL Nysa SA terminated the contract for the provision of coaching services with coach Daniel Pliński,” the club wrote in a short statement on Wednesday morning.

Francesco Petrella makes his debut in the Polish competition

Pliński was replaced by Francesco Petrella. The Italian coach took up work outside his homeland for the first time. His last club was Valsa Group Modena (2023-24), he was released during the competition.

The Italian also has several years of work as an assistant at Itas Trentino (2017-23). Interestingly, the new coach of PSG Stal is only 35 years old.

Pliński is the third coach fired in PlusLiga this season. Earlier, in Olsztyn, Juan Manuel Barrial was replaced by Marcin Mierzejewski, and in Katowice, Grzegorz Słaby was replaced by Emil Siewiorek. In both cases, these were replacements of “number one” players by previous assistants. In Nysa the situation is different.
